Have you ever dreamed of trekking through the World’s
highest peaks in the magnificent Himalayas in Nepal, with looming giants like
Everest? Gasping for breath in pins-and-needles cold, having been snowed on the
night before through a gap in the window, in a musty bed of limited comfort,
can lead a question whether an Everest Base Camp trek is really worth it.
Short Trek to Everest Base Camp takes us to the backyard of the world famous
Sherpas, their faith in Buddhism, Namche Bazaar, the Sagarmatha National Park,
the mightiest viewpoint of Kalapatthar and the Everest Base Camp itself.
Furthermore, we reach Tengboche Monastery which is the highest monastery in the
Khumbu region of Nepal and come close to four of the world's six tallest peaks:
Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Makalu, and Cho-Oyu. We begin our hike to the
Everest base camp with a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla equipped with all
necessary permits and trekking gears.
Trekking to Everest base camp via jiri, although relatively
easy compared to some of other treks, takes you up high along trails to
Tengboche Monastery (3850m). This is a short trek but very scenic trek offers
really superb view of the world's highest peaks, including Everest, Lhotse,
Thamserku, Ama Dablam and other many snowy peaks. We fly from Kathmandu to
Lukla airstrip in the Khumbu region and trek up to Namche Bazar, Tyangboche
(famous for its monastery) and into the Khumjung village, a very nice
settlement of Sherpas people. This trek is a great introduction to Sherpa
country and its culture with great mountain views, a very popular destination
for first time trekkers in Nepal. This trek is best suited for those who do not
have enough time for longer treks into the high mountains.
The Everest Base Camp
Trek is one of the most popular and iconic treks in Nepal. Trekkers get to retrace
the early footsteps taken by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tensing Norgay on their
historic Everest expedition in 1953. Thus it is pretty difficult not to recommend
Everest Base camp trek for anyone with an adventurous spirit and an eye for
mountains. Anyone wishing to avoid crowds and enjoy some alone time with the nature,
then taking this trip during winter could also be an option as it is a fantastic
combination of accessibility and beauty.
